The Project

  • Exterior re-cladding to increase natural light.
  • Extension of the entrance lobby to the south.
  • New Triple storey feature stair.
  • Increased accommodation for retail & hospitality.
  • Elevate to achieve sustainability & wellness credentials.

This special Canary Wharf redesign by Buckley Gray Yeoman offers a highly sustainable modern workplace, with a focus on the wellbeing of the building’s occupants.

The exceptional specification and impressive environmental credentials, create inspirational spaces within the distinctive curved ‘YY’ features of the buildings facade.

  • The Brief

Scheduled during the Covid pandemic, the initial brief from Buckley Gray Yeoman (BGY) centred around concerns of spreading infection through touch.

Knowing that our products, especially door handles, are the most frequently touched part of a building, we saw our responsibility to make its users feel as safe and comfortable as possible as they move through it.

  • With this in mind all doors were double action (swing both ways) and a flat bar handle was chosen for its resemblance to a push plate, this encourages users to operate the door without the need to grip it, reducing cross-contamination through contact.

BioCote® was used in high traffic areas on all tangible stainless steel products, such as pull handles and push plates, to help keep the building clean and users safe.

  • Better Together

Bringing together consciously safe material choices and products with functionality that intuitively drives safe user behaviour, we delivered an elegant specification that made the building easier to navigate safely.

BGY Architects knew that by bringing our expertise to the project, their end users would, quite literally, be in safe hands.

Aesthetic

Visually, the linear shape and proportions work perfectly alongside the vertical lines of the external cladding, framed glass doors, and wooden wall panelling.

BioCote® antimicrobial finish

A clear finish applied on top of a base finish that offers enhanced hygiene with protection against the negative effects of microorganisms such as bacteria and mould.

Satin stainless steel was the obvious finish choice to complement the contemporary design created by BGY, with its visually appealing, non-intrusive aesthetic. It’s also one of the most sustainable material choices you can choose.

We recommended a visually connected suite of handles, WC indicator sets, and complimentary accessories to ensure complete and fully considered ironmongery and washroom specifications.

  • “Chris and the 3V team were a pleasure to work with and proactive in helping us adapt the ironmongery package in response to the pandemic. We’re really pleased how seamlessly the ironmongery has been integrated into the joinery finishes and look forward to continuing our collaboration on future projects”

Adam Whitlock Wood - BGY Architects

  • "The YY building both met and exceeded the client’s brief. A project with aptly designed anti-bacterial product and with seamless integration of ironmongery and access control throughout the building."
