The Project

  • Rationalise internal layout.
  • Improved Access & Circulation.
  • Improvement of Function Spaces.
  • New Link Building.
  • Archaeologist engagement and onboarding.
  • New Bespoke HAVC & Electrics.
  • New lift access to all floors.

A rationalising refurbishment bringing 17th Century architecture, that predates the Fire of London, up to modern standards.

Grade I Listed areas and Ancient Scheduled Monuments requiring careful and collaborative consideration of respective expertise from all project partners to meet structural, safety and heritage standards.

  • The Brief

The project was part of Stationers’ Hall Charity’s ‘Vision 350’ (for its 350th anniversary in 2023) for making the Hall more accessible to everyone and sustainable for the future. It was important to us to have that mission as a guiding force for our specification.

Where we could refurbish and re-use, we did.

  • Wanting the heritage and use of the building to shine through, we knew that to do this we needed a confidently recessive Ironmongery schedule.

  • We focussed on bringing more consistency of ironmongery throughout the architecture, so that it blended into the bigger picture of the building.

Detail

The majority of our specification was finished in Antique Brass, to match as closely as possible the original 17th-century materiality.

Washrooms

For washrooms we offered a blended specification, with exterior in Antique Brass to sit with the rest of the buildings circulation Ironmongery, whilst specifying Satin Chrome and Stainless Steel on the interior.

  • "3V were able to work with us to refine our client’s ironmongery brief and to put together all of the necessary schedules and samples for the project. Their expert knowledge was invaluable when working with bespoke joinery and the awkward-to-resolve details that are so often found when working with old and historically significant buildings."
